Sharing our experiences of community energy developments with our ECCO partners is a principle aim of the Interreg project. The Green Valleys welcomed project partners from France and Ireland, along with key Irish regulators for two days in the Brecon Beacons to learn more about the Welsh experience of developing small scale hydro power schemes. Small hydro power schemes offer a low impact option for renewable generation and there are opportunities in both France and Ireland to identify potential sites and ensure that they can be appropriately developed. By visiting some of our successful hydro sites and learning more about the regulatory process from Natural Resources Wales, we hope to enable hydro power as an option for communities and land owners in our partner countries. Sharing our expertise in Wales will hopefully accelerate the use of hydro across Europe and demonstrates the value of working together with our partners to tackle our shared need to decarbonise our economies.
